When you embed or link to a SoftChalk Cloud learning content, the content resides on the Cloud server. If the learning content author modifies the learning content, those changes will be reflected automatically in any web pages that reference that item. If the learning content author removes the learning content from the Cloud site, you will no longer see the embedded object in your web page, and any links to it will appear as broken links.
If you download the learning content and save the learning content into SoftChalk 7 or higher, then you will have your own independent copy of the learning content. You can also select the "Copy Lesson to My Content" link underneath the lesson page to add that lesson to your own content area. Any changes that the author makes to the learning content will NOT be reflected in your copy of the learning content. You will be able to modify your copy of the learning content and use the learning content in any web pages or SoftChalk lessons that you wish.
