My lesson will not open. I receive an error message: "Cannot open the packaged lesson. The folder "Lesson_Name" already exists in the directory with the packaged lesson."

This error message happens when SoftChalk attempts to unpack a previously packaged lesson. It will attempt to create a new directory with the name 'lesson_name'. However, if there is already a folder with that identical name, it will fail to unpackage and give that error.

As well, when editing a lesson from the Cloud, a .zip of the lesson is downloaded to SoftChalk's temp directory. Then the .zip is un-packaged and loads in Create. This error likely means that there's still a lesson folder left in the temp directory and that it needs to be deleted.

There are two possible resolutions:

You will need to empty the SoftChalk Temp Directory

Look in My Documents > _SoftChalkDownloadTempDir and move any folders present in that directory. The Temp directory should always empty itself whenever SoftChalk Create is shutdown, but if there's anything still in there you should move it elsewhere to resolve this error.

Outside of SoftChalk, you will need to move the .zip file (packaged lesson) to a different directory so that you can open the .zip file (packaged lesson).

You can quickly resolve this by doing the following:

  1. Locate the lesson .zip that you're trying to open
  2. Create a New Folder anywhere on your computer
  3. Place the lesson .zip into that New Folder
  4. Launch SoftChalk Create, go to File > Open Packaged Lesson and open the .zip from within the New Folder
