I am using Firefox 23 or higher. I have a SoftChalk lesson that contains embedded media and/or widgets. The media/widget content no longer appears when I upload my lesson into an LMS. What should I do?

The latest version of Firefox (version 23) has mixed content blocking enabled by default. SoftChalk Cloud and most LMS servers are delivered over a secure connection, however most streaming media sites (such as youtube) and many sites that have widgets available are delivered over an unsecured connection.

When a page in your lesson that contains unsecured content (such as a streaming youtube video) is delivered over a secure connection (such as your LMS server) that page is considered to have mixed-content.

By default Firefox will prompt the user when loading a page that contains mixed-content, asking them if they want to keep blocking unsecure content on this page, or if it should disable protection for this page. Students and Instructors must select disable protection for this page in order to load the embedded media and/o widgets contained in the lesson.

What follows is a screencap of the message you'll see in Firefox, as well as step-by-step instructions for disabling mixed-content blocking for that page. You may want to put this info on your course homepage so your students are aware of what they need to do in order to fully load their SC lesson.

If you are using the latest version of Firefox (version 23) please be aware that you will need to disable mixed content blocking when loading lessons, otherwise some parts of the lesson page may not load.

In FireFox 23 look for the following message to appear in the top left side of the page when loading a new lesson page.

Be sure to select Disable Protection on this Page, this will allow the entire page to load.
