When I insert an image into a lesson, what happens to the image file?

There are two ways to put an image into a lesson.

Within the SoftChalk Create program when you choose Insert / Image to insert an image into a lesson, the image file is saved with the lesson. In other words, there is now the original image file and a separate image file that is saved as part of the lesson.

With a SoftChalk Cloud account, you have the option to put a file into your My Content / Files area. Then, within the SoftChalk Create program, you can choose Insert / SoftChalk Cloud Item. You can reference this file. This option allows you to have the file in one place on the Cloud where you can update it.
