SoftChalk Assignment Troubleshooting FAQ

This page will guide you through the most common steps that resolve access, loading, and score‑recording issues when launching a SoftChalk assignment from your LMS.


1. Make sure your browser allows SoftChalk cookies

SoftChalk assignments require your browser to allow cookies from https://softchalkcloud.com so your score can be recorded correctly. Choose your browser below for instructions.

Chrome (Windows / Mac)

  1. Log into your LMS site.

    • Note the LMS URL (for example: myschool.canvas.com, myschool.brightspace.com, etc.).

  2. In Chrome, click the three vertical dots in the upper‑right corner.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Scroll down and click Advanced (at the bottom).

  5. Under Privacy and security, select Site settings.

  6. Select Cookies and site data.

  7. Under Sites that can always use cookies, click Add.

  8. For the site, enter: [*.]yourlmsurl.com
    Examples:

  9. Click Add to save.

Chrome (Android)

  1. Open the Chrome app.

  2. Tap More (three dots).

  3. Tap Settings.

  4. Tap Cookies, Site Data.

  5. Make sure all cookies, including third‑party cookies, are allowed.

Chrome (iPhone / iPad)

  1. Open the Chrome app

  2. Tap the three dots (More)

  3. Tap Settings

  4. Tap Privacy

  5. Tap Cookies, Site Data

  6. Make sure Allow all cookies is selected

  7. If your version supports exceptions, add:
    https://softchalkcloud.com

Firefox (Windows)

  1. Open Firefox

  2. Click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper‑right corner

  3. Select Settings

  4. Select Privacy & Security

  5. Under Enhanced Tracking Protection, choose Standard

  6. Scroll to Cookies and Site Data

  7. Select Manage Exceptions

  8. Enter:
    https://softchalkcloud.com

  9. Click Allow

  10. Click Save Changes

Firefox (Mac)

  1. Open Firefox

  2. Click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper‑right corner

  3. Select Settings

  4. Select Privacy & Security (left side)

  5. In the Cookies and Site Data section, select Manage Permissions

  6. Enter:
    https://softchalkcloud.com

  7. Click Allow

  8. Click Save Changes

Firefox (Android / iPhone / iPad)

  1. Open the Firefox app

  2. Tap the menu icon (three dots)

  3. Tap Settings

  4. Tap Enhanced Tracking Protection

    1. Set it to Standard

  5. Go back to Settings

  6. Tap Cookies (or Site Data, depending on version)

  7. Make sure cookies are allowed

  8. If your version supports site exceptions, add:
    https://softchalkcloud.com

Safari (Mac)

Enable cookies and allow cross‑site tracking

Step 1: Open Safari settings

  • Open the SoftChalk lesson in Safari

  • In the upper‑left corner of your screen, click Safari

  • Select Settings (or Preferences on older versions)

  • Click Privacy

Step 2: Allow cookies

  • Deselect Block all cookies

    • If this option is checked, Safari will block the cookies SoftChalk needs to record your score

    • This setting is not enabled by default, but if it is turned on, it must be disabled

Step 3: Allow cross‑site tracking

  • Deselect Prevent cross‑site tracking

    • Safari blocks cross‑site tracking by default

    • SoftChalk assignments require this to be turned off so your LMS can pass the correct launch information

Safari (iPhone / iPad)

Enable cookies and allow cross‑site tracking

  • Open the Settings app

  • Scroll down and select Safari

  • Under Privacy & Security, turn off:

    • Block All Cookies

    • Prevent Cross‑Site Tracking

  • Quit and restart the Safari app

  • Log back into your LMS and relaunch the SoftChalk assignment

Edge (Windows / Mac)

Allow cookies for your LMS and SoftChalk

  1. Log into your LMS site.

  2. Note the LMS URL (for example: myschool.canvas.com, myschool.brightspace.com, etc.).

  3. In Edge, click the three dots in the upper‑right corner.

  4. Select Settings.

  5. Select Cookies and site permissions (left menu).

  6. Click Manage and delete cookies and site data.

  7. Click Allow under Sites that can always use cookies.

  8. Click Add and enter your LMS domain using the wildcard format:
    [*.]yourlmsurl.com
    Examples:

    1. [*.]myschool.canvas.com

    2. [*.]myschool.brightspace.com

  9. Add a second entry for SoftChalk if needed:
    https://softchalkcloud.com

  10. Make sure Block third‑party cookies is off.

Edge (Mobile – Android / iPhone / iPad)

Edge mobile is simpler than Chrome mobile, but the key settings still apply.

  • Open the Edge app

  • Tap the three dots

  • Tap Settings

  • Tap Privacy and security

  • Tap Cookies

  • Make sure Allow all cookies is selected

  • If your version supports exceptions, add:
    https://softchalkcloud.com
    and your LMS domain (e.g., myschool.canvas.com)


2. Make sure your device is up to date

Using an outdated operating system can prevent SoftChalk assignments from loading correctly.

  • Open Settings > Windows Update

  • Install any available updates

  • Open System Settings > General > Software Update

  • Install any available updates

  • Open Settings > General > Software Update

  • Install the latest iOS version

  • Open Settings > System > System update

  • Install any available updates


3. Relaunch the assignment

After adjusting your settings:

  1. Close your entire web browser (all tabs and windows)

  2. Reopen the browser

  3. Log back into your LMS

  4. Open the SoftChalk assignment again

You should see a prompt to Continue or Resume your attempt.


4. If the issue continues

Try the following:

  • Switch to a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, or incognito)

  • Try a different device (laptop, desktop, tablet)

  • Clear your browser cache, then relaunch the assignment

  • Restart your device and try again

These steps often resolve lingering connection or caching issues.

If the issue persists after completing all steps above, please contact your instructor and share:

  • A screenshot of the error message

  • The browser and device you are using

  • Whether you tried another browser or device

  • Whether you saw the Continue/Resume prompt
