I track my SoftChalk in an LMS. How do I locate and score Learner responses to Essay questions?

Instructors can view the Essay responses in the assignment ScoreCenter in the LMS. Please see the ‘SoftChalk ScoreCenter’ section in the appropriate LMS Integration Guides for details to access your SoftChalk ScoreCenter within your LMS course.

Scored Essay questions must be manually graded.

Instructors will use the ‘Grade Essay’ button to assign a score or point value for the Essay response. The student’s score is automatically updated and sent to the LMS gradebook.

  1. Log into your LMS click on the course you are designated as the ‘instructor’.

  2. Navigate to the SoftChalk linked assignment.

  3. Click on the linked assignment to launch the SoftChalk ScoreCenter.

  4. Scroll down and click on a Learner name.

  5. From the Learner attempt list, click on the linked attempt.

6. The Learner Details page will list each scored QuizPopper, Quiz Group, or Activity in the lesson.

7. Click to expand the Essay QuizPopper.

Here you can review the Essay score, question, and the User Answer.

8. Click on Grade Essay.

9. Enter a Score for the Essay.

10. Add feedback to the Essay (optional).

11. Click Save.

The Essay Score is added to the Learner attempt score and posted to the LMS gradebook.

12. Click on Back to Class Average to return to the Class Average Page.

13. The updated score will appear listed and the Class Average details updated.
