IMPORTANT: Before delivering your lesson to your learners, we recommend that you use the following checklist.

Details

Assign points to activities and quiz popper/groups within your SoftChalk lessons

Double-check that you have assigned points to the activities and quiz popper/groups in your SoftChalk lessons.

(Within a SoftChalk lesson, modify an activity or quiz popper/group to enter a point value. Click OK and save the changes to your lesson.)

Check course assignment settings

Double-check you associated the LTI link with the course.

(Within the LMS course, click on the SoftChalk assignment. As the course instructor, you should see the ScoreCenter for the assignment if the assignment was added using the LTI link. See the SoftChalk ScoreCenter section in your LMS user guide for additional ScoreCenter details.)

Set the Scoring Method

Choose to have the learner’s First Score, Highest Score, Most Recent Score, or Average Score post to ScoreCenter and the LMS gradebook.

See the Set the Scoring Method section in your LMS user guide for additional details.

Set the Maximum Number of Attempts

The default setting allows learner access to the content an unlimited number of times. You can also limit learners to a specific number of attempts allowed for the SoftChalk assignment.

See the Set the Maximum Number of Attempts section in your LMS user guide for additional details.

Assign a point value to the assignment within the LMS

In the LMS, modify the assignment to confirm a score or point value has been entered. Enter a score or point value if necessary. Be sure to save the assignment changes.

Does the lesson contain an Essay question?

Scored Essay questions must be manually graded.

You can view the Essay responses in ScoreCenter and then use the ‘Grade Essay’ button to assign a score or point value for the response. The learner’s score is automatically updated and sent to the LMS grade book.

See the Essay section in your LMS user guide for additional details.

Tell Your Learners about the Student Guide to SoftChalk Lessons

We encourage you to have your learners review our Student Guide to SoftChalk Lessons, which includes a troubleshooting section. The full guide URL is below.

Take Your Lessons as a Practice Student

We highly recommend that you test your lesson as an enrolled student to verify that you have set up all the options as you want.

Trouble Viewing as a Practice Student?

If you are connected to your SoftChalk Cloud account, you will not view the assignment the as a learner.

  • Try accessing the SoftChalk assignment as a student within an incognito web browser.

  • Or, navigate to https://softchalkcloud.com and click Logout in the upper-right corner. Then access the SoftChalk assignment as an enrolled student.

Edit a lesson and/or Change lesson scores

It’s best practice not to adjust the Cloud ScoreCenter assignment score after student’s have made attempts.

If you need to edit a lesson and learners have already made attempts on the assignment, then the previous attempts made on the lesson will appear with an asterisk next to the student score and display <previous revision> under the ‘Completed date’ in ScoreCenter.

If you change the overall possible lesson score and users have already accessed the content, we recommend you create a new assignment for learners to access the updated lesson.

Previous student scores will not automatically convert to the new score equivalent.

  • You may want to allow those students to make a 2nd attempt at the updated lesson.

  • Otherwise, you may need to manually adjust the LMS grade book scores for users that have already made an attempt.
