Below are the steps SoftChalk support typically takes when checking for images that may not be optimized.

A. Download the lesson locally and determine if there are existing large images in the lesson folder.

  1. Once you save a lesson in the Cloud, you can choose to ‘Download Lesson’ under the Actions menu. This will place a .zip package of the lesson locally on your computer.

  2. Navigate to the .zip lesson, right-click, and select ‘Extract All’ from the menu. This process will ‘un-zip’ the packaged lesson and place a folder in the same location. This folder contains many files.

  3. Sort the files by Size (largest to smallest).

  4. Images that are not optimized tend to be quite large in Size. In the lesson folder, if the largest files are images, then those images are likely not to be optimized.

B. Once you’ve identified images that may not be optimized, open the image in a screen capture software like SnagIt or Jing.

  1. Open a ‘large’ image in an screen capture software like SnagIt or Jing (right-click to select Open With and choose a local screen capture software).

  2. The image should open and appear rather large in the editor. Use the screen capture software to resize the image (800 px or less width/height) and save the changes to the image.

C. After the image has been resized, insert the updated image back into your lesson using the Insert/Image menu.

D. Use File/Save As to ensure the larger image file is no longer available in the lesson folder.

E. Use File/Save to SoftChalk Cloud to replace the affected lesson in your account.
