Things to know

Activity title:

Up to 35 characters look best (50 max)

Activity instruction:

Up to 50 characters look best (500 max)

In the example, we added a word bank in the instructions area.

Word character limits:

Up to 30 character words.

Number of words:

The puzzle is generated off of the longest word in the Word list.

A puzzle within the 570 x 578 activity container will start with the longest word in the list.

Words that can be connected to the longest word and can fit inside of the 570 x 578 activity container will be included in the generated puzzle.

Any word(s) that cannot fit from the longest word and within the activity frame will not be included in the generated puzzle.

Across/Down Lists limits:

Up to 17 characters display per line in the published Across/Down lists.

A scrollbar appears after 6 Words in the Across/Down lists.

Tips

  1. Use a variety of long and short length words for a larger puzzle.

Create a Crossword Activity

Build the Activity

  1. Click the + icon and enter a Word and matching Clue.

  2. Repeat until each Word/Clue pair are listed.

  3. Click Generate Puzzle.

  4. Click Generate a New Puzzle until you’ve found the desired puzzle.

  5. Click Use this Puzzle to select the Crossword puzzle.

  6. When finished, click OK.
    The Connections Activity placeholder will appear in the lesson.

  7. Preview the lesson changes.

Autocheck (on)

When autocheck is enabled:

  • the learner will immediately see the point(s) obtained for the correct row/column

  • the correct row/column is displayed with a green background

  • the correct row/column is locked in the puzzle

  • any incorrect row/column can be modified and will display a white background.

Autocheck (off)

When autocheck is disabled:

  • The learner must click the Check Answer icon to submit their answers and view the activity score.

  • Words/phrases entered into the puzzle can be changed until the Check Answer icon has been clicked.

Show Answers (on)

When Autocheck and Show Answers are both enabled:

  • learners will immediately see the point(s) obtained for the correct row/column

  • the correct row/column is displayed with a green background

  • correct row/columns are locked in the puzzle

  • any incorrect row/column can be modified and will display a white background.

Once the Check Answers icon is clicked, any incorrect row/column will display the correct word.

Show Answers (off)

With Autocheck enabled and Show Answers disabled:

  • learners will immediately see the point(s) obtained for the correct row/column

  • the correct row/column is displayed with a green background

  • correct row/columns are locked in the puzzle

  • any incorrect row/column can be modified and will display a white background.

Once the Check Answers icon is clicked, the incorrect row/column will continue to display in the puzzle with a white background.
