Timeline by Date Activity

View a timeline of unlimited events ordered by date in a Timeline Activity. For instance, you would select by date to create a timeline for the American Revolution.

Things to know

Activity title:

Up to 115 characters look best (Unlimited)

Character limits:

Up to 12characters in the Event Title fits best (Unlimited)

Up to 1,650 characters fit in the Event Description without a scrollbar. (Unlimited)

A scrollbar will appear for users to view additional content.

Activity Title image best practice:

4:3 Aspect Ratio images work best for portrait images.

16:9 Aspect Ratio images work best for portrait images.

Minimum 133 width x 90 height pixels.

A 4:3 ratio mean that an image’s width is 4 units and a height of 3 units.

A 16:9 ratio means that an image’s width is 16 units and a height of 9 units.

A unit can be inches, lines, or pixels

There are several free image editors available to adjust the image aspect ratio.

To maintain image quality, crop the image dimensions using any image editor (ex. Paint/Paintbrush).

If an image is re-sized but not cropped to match pixel dimensions, the image may be stretched or squeezed to fit which can degrade the image quality.

Tips

  1. Select the appropriate interval for the given event dates.

  2. If the Event Start Date includes month and/or day, then the Even5 End Date also requires a month and/or day to be entered.

  3. Avoid long spaces between events.

  4. If there are events passed the visible timeline, a scrollbar is available below the event list.

  5. To view additional content in an event,a scrollbar will appear for users to view additional content for an event.

Create a Timeline by Date Activity

Build the Activity

  1. Enter a title for your timeline
    (required).

  2. To center the title, click the toggle On (optional).

  3. Choose a custom background color and text color (optional).

  4. Click the + icon to insert your local image file, SoftChalk Cloud image file or URL image file location in the heading (optional).

  5. Add image alt text (required for an image).

  6. Select an appropriate date Interval.

  7. Click + to create an event.

  8. Click on the event to add details.

  9. Choose date period (BCE/CE or AD/BC).

  10. Enter Start Date: year (required) and month/day (optional).

  11. Enter End Date: year, month/day (optional).

  1. Enter the Event Name.

  2. Click inside the Event Description to add details (optional).

An event can include text, images, hyperlinks, Chemical Formula/Math Equation or URL based media,

14. Click Back to return to the Timeline Activity editor and add another event.
15. Repeat Steps # 7-13 until all events have been created.
16. When finished, click OK.
The Timeline Activity placeholder will appear in the lesson.
17. Preview the lesson changes.
